Google's Star Wars Easter eggs: All of the known features added to celebrate The Force Awakens

The company has created little tricks including a feature that turns “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” into the opening of the film, and an entire virtual reality world

Google has revealed the full list of its (known) Star Wars Easter eggs, after the film has been released around the world.
The company has been gradually showing off its little additions to its products to in the run-up to the film’s release date. That has now arrived, and all of the Easter eggs are available.
The small features include a game that turns your phone into a lightsaber and a virtual reality experience that allows you to go inside the world of the film.

Lightsaber

Google created a whole game that turns your phone into a lightsaber. Players pair up their phone with their computer and then wave it around to operate the on-screen weapon — using it to battle through a range of enemies.

Choose your side

Perhaps the biggest feature that Google added is the option to “Choose your side” — a decision that will change everything on Google (and perhaps much more).
Clicking through to the page — which Google has been showing on its homepage — allows users to pick between either the dark side or the light side. Doing so changes most of Google’s products, affecting everything from Gmail’s loading bar to the look of Google calendar.

‘A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away’

One of Google’s more subtle and surprising Easter eggs is prompted by searching for that very phrase. Doing so will turn the entirety of the results into the Star Wars opening results — including with music, if you choose it.

Google Cardboard

The Google team worked with LucasFilm and Disney to create an entire Google Cardboard experience to go with the Star Wars films. It allows peope
The experience contained in there include a range of ways of immersing yourself in places and people from the Star Wars universe — various spaceships and droids from the films appear, as well as the opportunity to explore Jakku, the desert that features prominently in the new film.

Anything else?

Google said in its announcement that it had “hidden a few Easter eggs” — not all of which may have been found. As it warned: “awaken the Force within, and be on the lookout for things from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…”
But if you're looking for something easier, Google has a range of other (non-Star Wars) Easter eggs. And Google is far from the only company offering Star Wars-themed Easter eggs — others like Spotify have added their own, too.
